June kicks off the first of our long summer season of festivals on the Sunshine Coast and music is happening this month.
The first weekend marks the eigth annual Pender Harbour Blues Festival – a weekend full of the blues served up just the way you like it - June 3, 4, 5.
Johnny Ferreira, rock and roll sax star, with the sensational Nadine States, opens the weekend Friday, June 3, on the waterside deck at picturesque Garden Bay Pub. Gary Comeau and his Voodoo All Stars keep things jumping at the Garden Bay Pub Saturday night. Blues fan favourites, Gary and the boys deliver the zydeco and cajun style goods.
The ever-popular ‘Gibsons Jazz Week’ with live music in local restaurants also kicks off June 5 in Gibsons. This is the first of four shows that day and the music just keeps happening every night of the week until the opening night concert on Friday, June 11 with From the Heart featuring vocalist Pat Collier with jazz favourites Bill Coon and Michael Creber and our very own Boyd Norman, bass and John Rule drums. It will be a perfect evening to get in the mood for a full weekend of live music.
Sibel Thrasher will play at the Heritage Playhouse, and there will be boogying to Hey Ocean at Roberts Creek Hall, and ‘beautiful’ dancing to The Creek Big Band at Harmony Hall. On Sunday, a free Festival includes Definitely Diva, Coast Jazz Quintet and the Elphinstone Jazz Band.
